Climate change, resource scarcity and the resulting environmental, economic and social issues are arguably the world’s greatest challenges.
The smart city of tomorrow will therefore have sustainability at its heart. Minimising emissions and resource consumption to create functional, safe and healthy towns and cities.
The environmental footprint of mobility and parking solutions must form part of this debate, with a need to keep both to a minimum.
Parking space densification has always made sound environmental sense, with Wohr’s parking solutions require less floor space than conventional parking systems. Even during construction, less excavation is required, less surface area is sealed, less environmentally harmful materials are used in construction, and much more.
Wöhr Combiparker v. Conventional Underground Car Park
In order to show the difference in resource expenditure between our Combiparker solution and a conventional underground car park, we have compared both options with 40 parking spaces each. The results are incredible.
We offer e-charging solutions for our standard systems as well as our automatic systems.
More and more building owners, investors and local authorities are demanding disclosure of the sustainability of real estate – and their parking solutions – from the procurement of raw materials to the subsequent recycling of materials.
The Wohr Parklift 450 is the first mechanical parking lift in the world to have an environmental declaration (EPD) in accordance with ISO 14025.
Sustainable construction and sustainable mobility are hugely important issues. Environmental declarations according to ISO 14025 play an important role, especially for real estate. They form the base information for a life cycle assessment and are required for sustainability certification of buildings.
Automatic and mechanical parking solutions such as Wohr parking systems are proven to make an enormous contribution to reducing the ecological footprint. As a global technology leader, Wohr provides the first neutral proof in the market with an EPD for the Parklift 450.
The requirement for an EPD is already part of the tender process for many construction projects. Architects and planners use EPDs to calculate the life cycle assessment of buildings and thus obtain sustainability certification for their building.
BREEAM PROJECTS
In the centre of Madrid, a fully automatic Wohr Multiparker 740 system contributes to the reduced ecological footprint of the Montalbán 11 building.
Sustainability was the top priority in the comprehensive redesign, from energy efficiency to the use of environmentally friendly materials and integration into the local ecosystem. The fact that Montalbán 11 carries a BREEAM Very Good certificate for particularly environmentally friendly buildings is in part also thanks to the installation of a fully automatic Wohr Multiparker 740 solution.
The converted Apolonio Morales 29 office building in Madrid has LEED Platinum green building certification. One of the building’s key efficiency features is the integration of the parking and geothermal systems. The scheme’s architect talked about the potential of smart parking systems, which not only minimise the urban footprint of cars, but can also be combined with renewable energies and multimodality.
NEW PLATFORM SURFACE
New coating process reduces CO2-footprint by 70 per cent
When evaluating the environmental impact of a product, the focus is not only on its life expectancy, but also on the CO2 emissions across its lifecycle.
Wohr is undertaking some pioneering work in this area. From October 2023, Wohr parking systems’ platforms have been protected against corrosion with an innovative coating process.
The special zinc-aluminium-magnesium alloy coating makes the platforms more corrosion-resistant and resilient than hot-dip galvanised steel. In addition, their carbon footprint is 70% lower, as the transport route to the galvanising plant is eliminated and the manufacturing process is significantly more environmentally friendly.
Another advantage of this type of coating is the self-healing effect that sets in independently at edges, seams, perforations or scratches and reliably prevents long-term rust damage.
OUR SUSTAINABILITY GOALS
Wohr’s Global Goals for Sustainable Development
The sustainability agenda aims to achieve socially, economically and ecologically sustainable development worldwide by 2030. To this end, the global community has agreed on 17 goals, also called Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
These goals encompass all aspects of sustainability and are designed to help address the most pressing challenges of our time, including poverty, inequality, climate change and environmental degradation.
This is not only about improving living conditions in developing countries, but also about sustainable development in industrialised countries.
Implementing the SDGs requires cooperation between all stakeholders at global, national and local level. Companies play an important role in this, and can make a significant contribution to achieving the goals through their commitment and innovations.
As a company, we are aware of our responsibility and are committed to promoting the SDGs in our business operations and beyond. Because only through a joint effort by all can we ensure a sustainable future. Especially in the following four areas, we can present innovative solutions for sustainable mobility based on our know-how and experience and contribute to mastering the challenges of the future:
Industry Innovation & Infrastructure (SDG 9)
More and more people are moving to cities, and urbanisation is increasing exponentially. As a result, the largest share of global traffic will in future occur on a comparatively small part of the earth’s surface. Our parking systems help to use urban space more efficiently and overcome traffic problems in densely populated regions. We offer individually tailored solutions for limited space requirements and help to improve traffic flow and avoid congestion with our technology. Commuters, residents and visitors can therefore reach their destination comfortably and stress-free.
We are committed to sustainable urban development and to contributing to improving the quality of life in cities.
Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11)
For the city of the future, which focuses on sustainability, the creation of green spaces plays a central role. At WÖHR, we contribute to this not only by creating additional parking space, but also by preserving existing green spaces and living space. One example of this is the relocation of parking spaces underground. In this way, we create space and at the same time contribute to a greener cityscape. Our mission is about transforming cities and making them fit for the future. Our products support the mobility revolution and contribute to creating a sustainable and green city where people enjoy living and working.
Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12)
We recognise the importance of sustainability for the future of our planet and are committed to using limited resources more responsibly and providing sustainable solutions to our customers. We are committed to optimising our production processes and products in terms of resource efficiency and sustainability. Our environmentally friendly parking systems are designed for long life and energy efficiency. Our Parklift 450 was the first parking system in the world to receive an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), which covers the entire life cycle of the product and the resulting energy consumption.
At Wohr’s headquarters in Germany, we already rely 100% on renewable energies and are actively committed to a green future.
Green Future (SDG 13)
Our products have always been designed to be environmentally friendly and offer numerous advantages compared to conventional parking solutions. By using fewer resources in production and installation, they help reduce environmental impact. During operation, they also produce significantly less CO2 emissions and thus help to improve air quality in cities.
Vehicles searching for a parking space are a major contributor to inner-city emissions and can be minimised with our smart parking systems. With our commitment to climate-neutral cities, we aim to contribute to reducing environmental pollution and improving the quality of life in cities.
